Zonta Advice column By Rosie

Dear Rosie,

Our club's membership committee is recruiting left and right!  We're so excited to be bringing several new members into our club during the summer and fall.  Since we already paid our member dues in May, how do we pro-rate the dues for the members who are joining now?

-- excited Zonta president

Dear Excited,

How thrilling that your club is so focused on bringing quality members to our global organization!  I understand why you'd want to get them initiated as soon as you can.

The Zonta International dues options are either full year -- $80 to ZI plus a $15 new member fee plus $3 for liability insurance -- or partial year, with $40 to ZI, along with the $15 new member fee and the $3 club liability insurance fee, for those joining between December 1 and May 31.

District 15 offers the same level of reduction to members joining after December 1:  $20 for a full year, reduced to $10 for members joining after December 1.

Keep up the good work Excited!  Let your area director know if you need help.

Scholorships

Things have remained busy in Zonta land.  The District 15 nominee for Jane M. Klausman award has been submitted and we should know by mid-October if she is also and Zonta International winner.  We expect the announcement will be made at the Fall Conference.

Recruit like minded women, women who think of recruiting or generating leads!!

What type of business women do you know who's primery job is to find leads for their company? Insurance co., Realitors, Financial planners, etc. They typically belong to their local Chamber of Commerece.

Refer to the list of "catagories" in the membership classifications list for ideas of women you could ask if they would like to serve their community.

Zonta International Foundation News:

Do you remember yourself at eight or nine years old? Were you riding your bike to the park or to visit friends? Or going to Girl Scout meetings? I remember reading Nancy Drew mysteries and imagining myself as a clever detective. Something I wasn’t doing, and I’ll bet you weren’t either, was getting ready for my wedding!

Forced marriages, especially forced marriages of young girls, is the worst kind of violence against women.  Perhaps you remember being horrified at he death of nine-year-old Indian girl as a result of her wedding night. It is hard to imagine a life where Read more...

Are You Celebrating Women's Equality Day?

“The right of citizens of the United States
to vote shall not be denied or abridged by
the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

The 19th Amendment to U.S. Constitution

Celebrate the day U.S. women won the right to vote: August 26, 1920.  On that date, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was certified as law.  In 1971, Congress passed legislation to designate August 26th,tannually as Women’s Equality Day.” This year's themeCelebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment will continue to be the theme for celebrations of Women's Equality Day throughout the country.

The importance of this celebration is to remind the country of the importance of participating in our democracy.  The Women's Suffrage Movement spanned over three generations and 72 years.  It was a massive, peaceful civil rights movement that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York.  It is an amazing story of triumph over countless challenges.

Are you ready to celebrate Women's Equality Day?  It is easy to prepare  an informative one-hour program for your workplace, community group, or civic organization. Find everything you need at the National Women's History Project Webstore.
