A note from Cheryl Hall District 15 Governor

Welcome to September and “Back to School” for all our children and grandchildren in addition of those of you taking classes! This begins a new fall Zonta season for all of us. The upcoming Fall Conference plans are well under way and I hope you have all registered. The registration deadline is September 30 – SO (and like Nike says) JUST DO IT. click here to register

The Leadership Team of District 15 – all elected and all appointed board members and committee members met August 24-25 to clarify and solidify the D15 Leadership TEAM. Special thanks to Jacquie Gudmundsen for her outstanding facilitation – she was and always is an extremely competent leader! We are so lucky to have the Zonta International Leadership Development Chair as a member of D15’s team! AND she shepherds the ZIF for our district as well. Thanks for everything Jacquie!

As your club board and membership deliberates the contributions to ZI Foundation 2014-2015 Club Goals, to be delivered at Fall Conference, keep in mind that the recommendation is that each club ‘spends’ 1/3 of the service dollars raised by contributing to the ZI Foundation international projects and programs which include the International Service Fund (Eliminate Obstetric Fistula, HIV-free Generation, Gender Responsive Schools), ZISVAW (Strategies to Eradicate Violence Against Women), Amelia Earhart Fellowship, Jane M. Klausman Scholarship, Young Women in Public Affairs Award and Rose Fund. This biennium we will hear more additional details about the valuable work done internationally and our connection to that work!

Zonta Advice column By Rosie

Dear Rosie,

Our club has an ultra-connected member who has recruited some really great new members this year and they are super excited about our mission!   I sure would love it if she could get special recognition for her efforts to bring these committed individuals to Zonta.  Any ideas?

Dear Busy,

The Yellow Rose Award was developed just for occasions such as these!  Any club member who has sponsored three or more new members between October 31 and September 30 will be recognized at the October district conference at the Otsego Club in Gaylord.  Busy, you just need to check with your club president to be sure she has completed the form which was included in her presidents' packet prior to the conference.  Your  "ultra-member" deserves our applause!

How do you keep her?
How many Women do you have to invite to

Zonta and UNFPA Respond to Crisis in Liberia________

Ebola has reached epidemic proportions in many West African countries.  Ebola is a life-threatening contagious disease. Liberia, where Zonta is partnering with UNFPA to eliminate obstetric fistula, is especially hard hit.  The President of Liberia has declared a state of emergency and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has asked all partners to suspend other activities to support the national response to the Ebola outbreak.

Consequently, Phebe hospital in Bong County has been temporarily closed due to the high risk of exposure to Ebola in Bong County.  The 34 fistula survivors who were at the rehabilitation center there have been sent back to their counties of origin with the help of UNFPA and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The planned activities for the Liberia Fistula project have slowed greatly in order to respond to the national emergency of Ebola.  Once the crisis has passed, the rehabilitation center at Phebe hospital will continue to empower fistula survivors.

In the meantime, please continue your generous support and keep the fistula survivors, medical staff, and other Liberians affected by the Ebola epidemic in your thoughts and prayers.
