"Where do I start. I've been overweight all my life. I've tried all the diets; Atkins, starving myself, Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, etc. They worked but only in the short term. And every time I lost weight, I got pregnant (twice). It wasn't until 2 years ago when I was at my heaviest at 242 lbs that I decided I had to do something about it. To show you how heavy I was, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was 249 lbs. Three years later, I could not lose the weight. I grew extremely frustrated and just gave up. It wasn't until I saw pictures of myself after a trip to our native home of the Virgin Islands for Christmas in 2013 that I knew had to do something. At the time, I truly thought I was hot stuff. I was on the verge of wearing a size 22 with an 18/20 being my signature size.
In March of 2014 I had to be out on medical leave and once cleared, started working out at home. Once I got back to work, I approached Clarence and told him that I've taken my workout as far as I could go on my own and decided to join CD FIT again for the 2nd or 3rd time but with a mission this time. I started working out with him 2 to 3 days a week with some days attending the Silver Spring evening class. I can honestly say, I would have NEVER thought I would say that I love to work out, of course after the workout though. Clarence and his team continues to work around my "disabilities" (not claiming them) of knee issues, wrist issues with carpal tunnel, and shoulder issues.
To date, I've lost 63 lbs and counting, wearing a fitted to loose size 12. My goal is to lose another 30 lbs. It's been difficult but I know I will do it. I would say to anyone struggling with weight loss and exercise, just start small. Start with tracking what you eat on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be some fancy tracker. I use myfitnesspal. Cut out one small bad habit a week. Then add one day of exercise and park a little further in the parking lot. On days I can't get to work out, I walk. I aim to get in at least my 10k steps for the day and eat right. For breakfast, I usually have a protein shake or boiled egg with a protein, lunch: a salad with a protein and dinner: a protein and veggies. I usually snack on nuts but have to cut back on those or fruit. The trainers usually give great advice on things I can do to change up my diet to fit my needs. For me, I needed an
accountability partner. Someone to make sure I am keeping my goals. I sought the assistance of friends whom would check in with me. But the ultimate accountability lies within myself and how I feel and look.
The hardest part is starting something. I've been there literally All my life. I didn't start paying attention to weight until after college. Growing up in the islands, being overweight is the norm until health issues arise. I didn't want to become a statistic. I want to be around to see my children grow as well as be around for my grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
Thanks CD FIT for riding with me along this journey.
