 Under the guidance of President Norma Ambriz-Galaviz, LIFTT Inc. has partnered with Merritt College to enact an exploratory, qualitative research study to help facilitate the development of a framework for STEM engagement and a program implementation plan to scale up STEM education (early intervention) learning opportunities for middle school students in Oakland and the student body at Merritt College.

Research Study Activities
Dr. Chris Harrison, Co-Founder of LIFTT Inc., is the PI/Project Director for this study titled, Scaling Up STEM Education for Middle School students through the Expansion of Early Intervention Opportunities. Research activities include recruitment of participants, data collection and analysis, and summative report writing. 
Project Timeframe: November 2015 to May 2016.

Data Collection
& Study Participants 

A total of 14 members of the
Merritt College community have volunteered to participate in this study. They will provide input (via focus group meetings, semi-structured interviews, and online surveys) to guide and inform planning that will result in the expansion of STEM learning opportunities for middle school students in Oakland (and students enrolled at Merritt College).
Study participants include 7 faculty members, 3 administrators, 3 staff members, and 1 student body ASMC representative. These study participants represent the following departments/areas at Merritt College: Mathematics, Chemistry, Psychology, Biology, Administration of Justice, Counseling, Academic Senate, Applied Sciences, Student Services, and Workforce Development.

The final deliverables for this study are the development of a framework for STEM engagement and a program implementation plan to scale up STEM learning at Merritt College.
