Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Travel...
Volume Two
And they said it wouldn't last!
I know.. only the second issue so I shouldn't get too cocky!

Hope everyone's Thanksgiving holiday was a happy and safe one and that that rolls on over to our next holiday season!

My daughter was home from college for Thanksgiving and by 9 pm that night she had already done all her Christmas shopping!  Amazing!  In a few years I suppose we will be having Black Friday start the day after Halloween!

In that vein of thought.. it is never too early to start shopping for, or booking your 2015 travel.  Some of you reading this already know this because we have had you booked and paid for your 2015 trips since this past summer... but for those of you still wondering what to do for next year it isn't too late!  We still have some space on some exclusive travel deals for 2015 listed on our website!

And if you are local to the Charlotte area my daughter is coming home for her winter break this Friday... I am sure if you give her a list she will complete your holiday shopping for you!  No charge.. she just loves to shop!

Air Travel Savings...
In my last newsletter I had touched on the Yahoo News story that spoke about Sundays being the best day to purchase your tickets... so being the hard hitting journalist that I am I recently priced out 16 tickets (all international) that I am currently monitoring for clients traveling in 2015.

The time frames were slightly different.. starting in May 2015 and some tickets were up to the August time frame.  I priced them out on a Thursday and then that next Sunday I went and repriced them.  Most of the tickets stayed the exact same price... one ticket went down $6.00 and the big "winner" of the day was a ticket that went down $29.00 total.

Worth hunting around on a Sunday?  I would say only if your football team isn't playing very well..

My next investigative piece will touch on the thought that purchasing your ticket 59 days prior to travel is also a savings... I don't know... while you might save money you might also get stuck with some bad connections and times.. we will see though.

Incliment Weather and Insurance Coverage
With Winter just about on us (I think it arrived way too early BTW) I sometimes get the question of whether the purchase of Travel Insurance will help if your trip is delayed due to weather.  Here are some Winter Weather questions answered via Travel Guard, the insurance company that I have used for 15+ years now:

I am apologizing here... I cut and pasted these directly from the website.. I am a travel agent and not a professional newsletter-maker... if that is even a real profession... but for the life of me I can not get all these fonts to look the same... I quit... I just wanted to you know that yes I realize that  many of the words below are different sizes.. ugh!

If my airport is closed due to a severe winter storm, and my vacations is delayed, can I be reimbursed?   Yes, for a severe winter storm travel insurance can help cover the expenses incurred if your trip is delayed and can cover reasonable, additional travel expenses such as, accommodations, meals, etc., until travel becomes possible.

How can travel insurance cover my vacation investment in the event of severe winter weather?  In the event of a severe winter storm that causes the cancellation or delay of travel at your point of departure, travel insurance provides coverage under the Trip Cancellation and Interruption benefit. If your trip is cancelled for a covered reason, we will refund the pre-paid, forfeited, non-refundable trip costs trip up to the limit of coverage.

How else can travel insurance help me when my flight is cancelled or delayed due to winter storms?  Most insurance plans available through Travel Guard come with valuable assistance services. This means if your flight is delayed or cancelled due to severe winter weather, we will work with the airlines on your behalf to book a new flight and get you where you need to be.

If a severe winter weather warning or watch is issued that may impact my travel plans, up to what point can I still purchase travel insurance?
Insurance must be purchased 24 hours prior to when the severe winter storm warning or watch is issued. Once the severe winter weather warning or watch has been forecast, Trip Cancellation and Interruption losses resulting from the winter storm are excluded from the coverage of the policy.

As you can see with the answer to that last question, the best thing to do when traveling during the winter months and either leaving or traveling to (or through) a destination that may have a winter storm, is to purchase your insurance beforehand.  If you can predict 24 hours prior to a storm ever happening then I am just going to tell you that you need to apply for the position of your local weatherman... I don't know about yours but mine is never that accurate!!

World's 20 Most Amazing Opera Houses
I will confess... it was a slow day at my desk when an email came to me from one of my favorite sites... Fodors. When I do see them I always click because I love their photos and this time was no different!  I have been to just a couple of these and was so proud of myself that I recognized the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan by photo alone!

Tipping Guidelines
Another frequently asked question from clients.. sometimes I know the answer and sometimes not.

I am amused when I am traveling along side Australians and they are coming to the US soon.. they ask the same thing, how much to tip when they get here.
Here is a good list compiling tips amounts for restaurants, porters and taxis.

Now if someone could tell me how much to tip my hairdresser I would appreciate it.. I tend to over tip vs. under tip... I like my hair after all!

Amsterdam My Next Adventure
Some of you might have spoken with me recently and know that my next trip will be a river cruise from Amsterdam to Brussels.

Even though this will be my fourth visit to Amsterdam in about as many years I sometimes find myself wondering

"How many barrel organs are in Amsterdam?" or

"How many canals?" or

"How about electric vehicle charging points?".

If you have those burning  questions also or other "how many" questions about Amsterdam, then today is your lucky day!
