This month's wonderful plant-based coverage in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette generated a response that was truly inspiring.  It proved to me that Pittsburgh is a city that is ready to take control of our health and well-being by changing the food that we put on our plates.

Whether you have decided to jump in with both feet and never look back, or if you've decided to make smaller, incremental changes over time, a plant-based lifestyle can provide the best possible chance to prevent, arrest, and depending upon the disease, reverse, the chronic, degenerative diseases plaguing our society.

Each month, I will provide to you with any sound, scientific nutrition studies that can provide insight on how best to nourish ourselves, helpful hints for your plant-based journey, and recipes, restaurants, and products that help make this adventure exciting and tasty.  I hope you find it to be a practical roadmap on your way to wellness.

Please also take a look at the other resources that I provide to help you along your way:

New Documentary
Cowspiracy
is
a Must See

Cowspiracy is a newly released documentary which provides evidence that the animal agriculture industry is destroying the planet more than any other by being the leading cause of global warming, water depletion, deforestation, species extinction, and ocean "dead zones".  It also questions why major environmental organizations have not embraced advocating for a plant-based lifestyle, which has the ability to turn around global warming faster than current initiatives.
The creators did a fabulous job clearly depicting the multi-faceted impact of the standard American diet.
It is definitely a movie we all need to see for ourselves, our families, and our planet.

Once someone decides to adopt a plant-based lifestyle, the next question is usually, how do I cook plant-based?  Add to that a hectic lifestyle and either a lack of cooking skills or inclination for cooking and you may begin to wonder how this will fit into your current life.

Well a new Pittsburgh-based company wants to help you to incorporate healthy, plant-based meals into daily routine as effortlessly as possible.

Chef Zita Edsall will cook your dinners for you and have them hand delivered to your door each week.

Please help me to expand the reach of my message.  People have the right to know about the powerfully protective effect of plants and the incredibly dangerous impact of animal products on their health so that they can make informed decisions in the best interest of themselves and their families.

In my October 2013 e-newsletter, I cautioned against buying Stoneyfield O'Soy yogurt as the live cultures were grown via a dairy-based medium.

I am happy to report that their non-dairy yogurt is now completely free of dairy and tastes even better than before!

Mrs. T's now makes delicious vegan potato and onion pierogies.  Look for the label in the lower left hand corner of the package front which reads, "100% vegan & vegetarian, no animal products, dairy free".  They are not currently available in all grocery stores, so be sure to ask that your store carry them.  In the meantime, you can purchase them from the Shadyside Market District.  They are great when you are short on time and don't want to head through the nearest drive thru.

I can save you $25 (US customers) or $35 (Canadian customers) off of your shipping expense if you use the following promotional code when ordering either online at www.vitamix.com or by calling 1.800.848.2649.  I do receive a small commission from Vitamix for every purchase made using my promotional code, but it wouldn't change my recommendation of this product even if I didn't.
