DI IORIO DEMANDS RETRACTION FROM NEW YORK DAILY NEWS FOR FALSE CLAIM, COVERING FOR REP. CAROLYN MALONEY'S MONTH-LONG DEBATE DODGE

NFALSE CLAIM: "Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) crossed paths with her opponent Nick Di Iorio last week. It was during that encounter that she agreed to a debate for Thursday."

NEW YORK, NY --  Congressional candidate Nick Di iorio, (R-NY), challenger to Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) has demanded a retraction by the New York Daily News for falsely reporting that when he confronted Maloney last week about her refusal to debate him, she agreed in that conversation to debate him.  This is false. Rep. Maloney and Nick Di iorio both received an invitation one month ago by The National Herald newspaper in Queens to debate.  Di iorio accepted and Maloney did not. Both candidate were also invited jointly by the Columbia University College Republican and Democratic clubs to a debate set for this Monday.  Di iorio accepted and Maloney declined.  Both candidates were invited to take part in a multi-candidate forum by the 17th Precinct this Tuesday that event organizers confirmed to two media outlets was not a debate, despite erroneous claims by Rep. Maloney that it counts as a debate.

In the brief exchange between Di iorio and Maloney last week at the Met protest, Maloney informed Di iorio that she would only do the forum.  On Saturday, October 25, the Maloney campaign informed the Di iorio campaign that her schedule would no longer facilitate the 17th precinct forum (they still referred to it as a "debate"), but that perhaps the organization would accommodate them at a later date -- just before the election. The Di iorio campaign asked The National Herald to re-issue their debate invitation for Oct. 30 and requested Maloney accept.  The Maloney campaign accepted the debate invitation late Saturday night, Oct.25, NOT a week earlier during the exchange between Di iorio and Maloney, as falsely reported by the New York Daily News.

Nick Di iorio, the Republican nominee, is the sole challenger running in New York's 12th Congressional District against longtime incumbent Carolyn Maloney.  Di iorio has also received support from members of the Independence Party, Libertarian Party, and Conservative Party.  The district includes the east side of Manhattan, Astoria, Long Island City, Greenpoint, & Williamsburg.  More at: www.nickfornewyork.com.
