DI IORIO CALLS FOR FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS TO LIMIT EBOLA, PLACE EXPOSED ON 'NO FLY' LISTS

"Rep. Carolyn Maloney is not serious about protecting Americans from Ebola"

NEW YORK, NY -- Nick Di iorio, the Republican nominee running against Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) is urging Washington to take decisive and timely action to protect New Yorkers and all Americans against the deadly ebola virus.

The former Pfizer financial contractor said waiting until after the Nov. 4th election to deal with the ebola threat is "irresponsible and immoral" and that "ignoring the issue will cost lives, hurt our economy, and embolden our enemies, increasing our national security threats."  Di iorio, who also spent six years in the seminary and spends part of one day each week serving the poor in New York City, expressed concern that "it will, sadly, be the least fortunate among us who will be the hardest hit" as the poor and homeless are more difficult to track, quarantine and help.

While long-tern incumbent Carolyn Maloney has been silent and dormant on the issue, Di iorio will take on this and other important issues facing the nation, rather than simply introduce go-nowhere bills that die after the press release is issued, as is Maloney's custom.

Di iorio says the initial actions to be taken immediately are:

- Stop all flights from ebola-infected countries such as Liberia from entering the United States
- Seal the porous southern border with the National Guard and other available military
- Put all health care workers and others known to have been in contact with exposed and infected individuals on the "no fly" list

Di iorio noted that the GOP-led Congress has budgeted more money for the CDC for infectious diseases than President Obama requested, and that Congress, governors and the private sector should get involved in rapid response.

Nick Di iorio also noted that "with airline stocks dropping in the wake of ebola making its way around the globe, we need to focus on the economic impact, as well.  After 9/11 the airline industry suffered, which led to the swift downward spiral of our economy.  We can't allow that to happen again."

Maloney has not addressed the ebola crisis, and has refused to debate Nick Di iorio before the election. Said Di iorio, "Carolyn Maloney is not serious about protecting Americans from ebola.  We need serious, sober representation in Washington."
Nick Di iorio, the Republican nominee, is the sole challenger running in New York's 12th Congressional District against longtime incumbent Carolyn Maloney.  Di iorio has also received support from members of the Independence Party, Libertarian Party, and Conservative Party.  The district includes the east side of Manhattan, Astoria, Long Island City, Greenpoint, & Williamsburg.  More at: www.nickfornewyork.com.
