New York, New York - August 4, 2014 - Nick Di iorio, candidate for Congress in NY-12, criticized Representative Carolyn Maloney as "unserious" and "not doing her job" by making it her priority to travel to China to adopt pandas during Congressional recess instead of focusing on the many more pressing issues for New York and the nation.

"Israel is in peril, the border is mess, 92 million Americans are out of work,  the IRS is running amok with lying to Congress and in full cover-up mode right under Carolyn Maloney's nose, yet she turns a blind eye to these serious issues in favor of a photo op with a panda," said Di iorio, who is running against Maloney to represent New York's 12th congressional district in Washington. "I like pandas as much as the next guy, but this isn't what Congresswoman Maloney is paid to do."

Nick Di iorio also noted that "Rep. Maloney has been inept at doing her job for quite some time, simply taking the easy, press release approach, rather than being effective.  Just last year she ranked fifth in Congress for the number of bills introduced, yet a dismal 392 out of 439 for getting any of the bills she introduced signed into law, apparently satisfied to introduce the bills, send out the press release, and then nothing happens. In short, Rep. Carolyn Maloney is ineffective.  Her panda priority is just one more indication she needs to go."

"New Yorkers deserve someone working hard for them every day in Congress.  Carolyn Maloney is phoning it in," said Di iorio.  "New York deserves serious, sober, thoughtful representation. As Congressman, I will be on the job and working hard, whether I'm in Washington, DC or home in New York."

Nick Di iorio, a Republican, is the sole challenger running in New York's 12th Congressional District against longtime incumbent Carolyn Maloney.  Di iorio has also received support from members of the Independence Party, Libertarian Party, and Conservative Party.  The district includes the east side of Manhattan, western Queens, and Greenpoint in Brooklyn.
