It just keeps on going!

One of the things I love about Louisiana and the outdoors in particular is there is almost always something going on. Most of the hunting seasons are closed now, but the fishing is still great and turkey season is right around the corner. So let's switch gears and keep it going.
I’ve gotten reports from the coast that the Yellow Fin Tuna are tearing it up on the Louisiana Gulf coast. We’ve also added something new to our inventory, hog hunting (with a knife) in the coastal marshes. You got to see this to believe it. Our lodges that offer Turkey hunting are gearing up for the season and are looking for it to be a great year, especially in Alabama.

We are also getting into the Outdoor Show season, starting with the Spring Great Outdoors Show, Feb. 11th & 12th at Cabala’s in Gonzales. We will also be in Ft. Walton, Florida on Feb. 24th - 26th for the Florida Sportsman Expo. We will be posting our complete show schedule on our website soon.  Come by and visit with us.

Arkansas Cajun Invasion, January 2012

We conducted our Cajun Invasion of Arkansas the weekend of January 21. Although we wished for colder weather to push more ducks down, our invaders all managed to have a great time. We bagged a respectable number of duck and geese and had a number of good deer seen by our bow hunters.  Nicole Casida made a good shot on nice doe but we were unable to recover the deer after several hours of tracking. Everyone enjoyed great hospitality at the lodge and no one walked away from the dinner table hungry.

There are a number of improvements and changes going on at the lodge for next season including a new rifle range, a skeet shooting range and a fireplace in the TV room, ( by popular demand ).

We have already booked our next Cajun Invasion at the same lodge for November 30th to December 2nd. Most of our hunters from this year have already committed to coming back, so if you missed this one, call us soon to book for next season. We have a set limit on the number of spots and over half of those are already taken. We will also be making an early season deer hunt the weekend of November 10th to the same location.

Trail Tails

Hi to all my canine friends out there. This is Mousse, the chocolate lab, with this month’s edition of Trail Tails.

Well, this is my least favorite time of year. We’re pretty much done with duck season, but it was a lot of fun this year. Dad made several trips out of state for ducks (hey Dad, I like to travel too, ya know), as well as some deer hunts. He was way too busy for the last couple of months. He’s got a lot of ear scratches and belly rubs to make up to me!

Of course, he’s still busy cleaning guns and putting away equipment for the off season, not to mention getting ready to start doing the outdoor shows. He even said he might take me with him to a couple of the shows. I’d love to meet some of ya’ll, so we’ll see. (Those who bring doggie treats will be given a discount on trips. Hmmm, maybe I’d better check with Dad on that.)

Dad also told me they may have a trip to Ur-a-grrrway, U-rrrr-aguy, Ok, somewhere in South America, this summer. How the heck are you gonna hunt ducks in the summer? Hmmm, I wonder if they’ll have any cute Latin dogs down there. I may need to see what I’ve got to do to get a passport.

Well, that’s all till next time. Keep your paws dry and your noses wet!

Alaskan Fishing with a touch of Style

Our featured lodge of the month is in the great state of Alaska.

How would you like to fish for Silver Salmon today? Maybe you would like to try for that big Halibut or possibly a fly-out to a remote stream for some fly fishing for trout. Oh, did I mention this is on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska? So let’s see, great fishing, great scenery, what else could you want? How about a lodge second to none, with outstanding food, comfortable rooms (you’ve got your own fireplace in your bedroom), and a staff dedicated to making this a trip you’ll never forget. What, you still want more? Ok, how about wildlife watching, moose, bear, whale watching, and glacier tours. After a hard day of what is arguably the best fishing in the world, relax at happy hour before dinner. After dinner, if you’re not ready to stop, go cast a fly on the Kenai River for a big salmon.

All this and more is waiting for you.
