Granny's Famous Shortbread Recipe
spacer (1K)
This is one of my favourite indulgences during the holiday season. It's a recipe that's been passed down through the generations from my Scottish family.

To make one tray:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup fruit sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 1/4 cups of enriched flour
  • softened butter slightly but do not allow it to become oily
  • Stir in sugar, salt, and egg yolk using a wooden spoon
  • add flour gradually until the mixture is too stiff to work with spoon
  • turn onto floured board and knead lightly, drawing and flower while doing so until the dough begins to crack
  • pat out on ungreased pie plate, pinch edges and poke the entire surface with a fork
  • bake at 325 to 350 F until delicately browned
  • sprinkle surface with sugar
  • allow shortbread to cool before cutting
Tips:  If you like it moist in the middle use a deep pan with less surface area, otherwise, use a shallow pan with a larger surface area.  You may have to play with the tray size and temperature/time to taste and preferences.
We hope you like it !

Happy Holidays from Enable Wellness

We wish you all the health and happiness that the holidays have to offer.  In the spirit of giving, our team has been very busy this year with volunteer activities and donated over 750 hours to eliminate barriers to help make the world more accessible for everyone. Although this has not been easy, it has been great for company morale and is well aligned with our principals of SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
We also must admit that it has become a wonderful way to build social currency with other like-minded individuals and organizations that are motivated not just by profits but also in making the world a better place for everyone. We believe this is greatly needed in this time of global unrest and uncertainty. We hope that you will consider ways that you can make a difference to promote a peaceful, healthy planet.

Our New Logo
spacer (1K)
Is that our new logo or a vintage Pepsi bottle cap?  Our logo was designed to serve a dual purpose as our stamp of approval for accessibility and to make our name stand out from the crowd.  We like the nostalgic look from a time when 'quality was king' so now it has become part of our brand identity. We hope you like it and we welcome any feedback you have to help us on our road to continuous improvement.

Get Inclus!ve  with our Inclusivity Makeover

Why not make a resolution this year that you can keep while improving your business bottom line and your organization's ability to meet the needs of today's society?

More than 1.85 million Ontarians or 15.5 per cent of the population have a disability and this number is quickly rising as society ages. By 2017, for the first time, Ontarians aged 65 and over will account for a larger share of the population than children under 14.

People with disabilities already have an estimated spending power of $25 billion a year across the country and Canadians with disabilities influence the spending decisions of about 12 to 15 million other consumers so from an economic perspective, a population of this size has a substantial impact on buying decisions. Can you afford to miss out?

Aside from being a good business decision, being inclusive is the right thing to do and it reflects the nature of our society. Our unique interactive training will also bring you into compliance with the latest regulations, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the human rights code AND, more importantly, we will show you how to foster a company culture that thrives on diversity and inclusion.

Grants by Industry Experts Wanted
spacer (1K)
Skilled grant writers are hard to find but even more so in areas of specialty.  With an ever increasing need to find new prospective donors (individuals, corporations, foundations, government and others), specialized grant writers are a valuable asset to Non-profits seeking grants.

Enable Wellness has a growing team of professional grant writers with disabilities who bring their lived experience and end-user perspectives to write winning grant proposals for Not-For-Profit organizations. Grant writing consists of developing and writing grant proposals. This entails consulting, needs assessments, and brainstorming, followed by setting goals and objectives. You will match project needs with available funding and the process normally involves preparing and writing documents for submission, proofreading, submitting to the funding source and follow-up.
