Insider's Look at IRI Voracity
Voracity is IRI's new platform for "total data management" built on CoSort, Hadoop, and Eclipse for everyone connected to data ... from BI/DW and big data architects to
DBAs and data governance teams. CIOs and CFOs should consider Voracity too, because it uniquely performs, speeds, and combines data discovery, integration, migration, governance, and analytics in one affordable product.
Check out just a few of Voracity's newest features:
ETL Workflow Design Palette
Check out this how-to video on building a flow from scratch graphically, noting you can also build workflows with Voracity’s purpose-built job wizard, and from the AnalytixDS Mapping Manager (AMM).
Data Mapping Preview
You can preview the results of one or more transform tasks before saving or running the project. The display can contain a subset of actual input data; or, if that’s unavailable or confidential, use test data from IRI RowGen.
MDM Data Unification Wizard
Voracity offers a consolidation style master data management (MDM) tool in the IRI Workbench to scan, locate, and correct redundant records in flat files and JDBC-connected
data sources.
SCD Wizard
Voracity includes a new SCD wizard automating reports for Slowly Changing Dimension types 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 to respond to the way you store and manage dimensional changes in data.
CDC Wizard
Voracity also features a bulk/batch Change Data Capture (CDC) wizard to build jobs that will identify and report on the changes found.
DB Subsetting Wizard
A new end-to-end database subsetting job wizard in the IRI Workbench GUI makes this process faster and easier for creating smaller, referentially-correct copies of a larger database from real table extracts. It also supports data filtering and masking.

IRI Shares Voracity Use Cases at Big Data Bootcamp
IRI introduced Voracity at the Global Big Data Conference Bootcamp in Tampa, FL this month. IRI SVP David Friedland and CTO Don Purnhagen showcased Voracity applications in: R data preparation, Cassandra test data generation, MongoDB data masking, and VLDB and DW transform accelerations via CoSort and Hadoop engines. See the presentation slides here.
CoSort 10 - Justifiably Late
IRI continues to hold its next major upgrade to CoSort back for greater speed and dynamic tuning improvements until 2016. New features (already separately available) for SortCL users include support for UTF-8 data handling, composite data structures and format masks, Boost© date interval and linear regression libraries, and expanded condition syntax. Contact info@iri.com if you are interested in a beta release, or a look at the IRI Voracity platform for processing structured, legacy, and big/cloud data sources in CoSort or Hadoop.
DBTA Names CellShield Enterprise Edition a 2016 Trend-Setting Product
Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) has included IRI CellShield Enterprise Edition (EE) to their 2016 list of trend-setting data and information management products. CellShield EE discovers, reports, protects, and provides audit details for personally identifiable information (PII) found and masked in Excel spreadsheets on a single machine or across a network.
IRI has recently added more functionality to CellShield, including an intra-cell search function that allows users to find and fix PII values floating among other data in a cell (e.g., a social security number in a comments column).
IRI Helping Aspiring Progammers
Expanding our industry partnership with Eastern Florida State College, IRI CTO Don Purnhagen recently judged a student programming competition on the Space Coast. Awards were presented for solving real-world problems using different 3GLs.
The inter-campus event was sponsored by the Xcel-IT Program at EFSC, a federal-grant-funded initiative comprised of seven Florida colleges working to enhance career opportunities in IT. IRI supports these efforts through mentoring and experiential learning internships in software development and testing that can lead to career opportunities within the company or afield.
Tech Tip: DSN Files and IRI Software
In this month's tech tip, we demonstrate how to create and use DSN (database source name) files with IRI job scripts to process data in relational databases more conveniently.
