Insight from Sergio Flores
Throughout my professional soccer career I have been coached by many great coaches and players from around the world including World Cup Winners, Champions League Winners, and National Team coaches from USA and Argentina. I know what it takes to get to the next level. May it be the National Team, Professional Team, ODP Team, High School, or your local Travel team. I have been through them all.
It all comes down to one thing....TIME AND DEDICATION You need to put in countless hours and touches on the ball to become a better soccer player. The great thing about soccer is you only need a BALL to become a better soccer player. You don't need a full size soccer field to practice, grab a ball and go in your backyard or a local park!
Why do you think Messi can dribble so fast?
How about Cristiano Ronaldo's lethal shot?
Practice - Practice - Practice
Here are a couple of videos you can watch and apply on your own to improve your speed with the ball and improve your shot!
Dribbling - As you can see in the video the zigzag is very effective when wanting to improve your dribbling speed.
Key notes on dribbling
- keep your body low to the ground
- knees bent
- inside/outside with one foot
- small touches
Shooting - This is a very simple and basic demonstration to improve your shooting technique. Many players struggle with shooting with the laces, thinking they will kick the ground. This method will introduce the proper way to strike the ball.
Key notes on shooting
- lean forward
- laces
- strike the middle of the ball
- plant foot next to the ball ( not in front or behind the ball)
The greatest players in the world show up early to practice and leave late! Dedicate 30 minutes a day to touching the ball, you will see yourself getting better before you know it!!
