Innovation News

Dear All,

You may have noticed that on our recently revamped website we have started to list innovation specific / innovation focused recurring courses and programmes. Might you be aware of any you would be happy to recommend? We are looking forward to hearing from you!

The beginning of every year Nesta, an independent charity that works to increase the innovation capacity of the UK, releases a list of predictions for the forthcoming year. They explore trends they believe will shape the following 12 months. For us, one of them stands out: an increase in digital literacy. While it might take those of us who are somewhat older a while to get to grips with embracing the digital age, for the younger generation is the most natural of the gifts. This will only increase as the UK government has legislated that lessons in computing should be part of the curriculum for every six to 14 year old.  We wonder whether something is also done bridge the digital gap that exists between younger and older generations.... We absolutely agree with Nesta that 2015 will be the year when every young person across the UK will make and share something digital. If you are curious about this and all the other Nesta’s predictions click here

In order to stimulate the next generation of innovation researchers, ISPIM, John Wiley & Sons and Innovation Leaders are offering prizes worth over EUR 10,000 to the authors of the three best innovation management dissertations from 2014. The deadline for submission to the ISPIM PhD Innovation Management Dissertation Award is 31st January - that is just over two weeks from now. Full details of how to apply can be found at here.

We are delighted to extend the invitation to participate in research on 'how to make innovation more intrusive and actionable in 2015' to you, which is being conducted by the US-based Business Performance Innovation (BPI) Network! If you are involved in innovation at C-, Director- or Programme Management level we hope that you can find the time to answer 12 multiple choice questions online - it will only take 10 minutes.  All data will be be kept confidential and used in aggregate, and we will share results with the entire community.

You will know by now that we are a strong believer in the role design can play in the innovation context. So, if you’re still on the holiday mood or just looking forward to an interesting read, we suggest the new book by Dr. Ray Holland and Dr. Busayawan Lam: Managing Strategic Design discuss methods for using design for innovation and developing/ enhancing creative environments. It can be found here.

MS in Biomimicry

Recently we have been sharing a lot of things regarding Biomimicry. We find its approach to find innovative solution in nature’s design fascinating. Now Biomimicry 3.8 and ASU (Arizona State University) have come together to offer an online Master of Science degree in Biomimicry. The organisers say that this program is ideal for people interested in innovative, transdisciplinary learning, and to develop sustainable, real-world applications. If want to learn more about it, please click here

All best wishes from your ILF Team (Bettina, Caroline & Lis).
