Home Security Facts:
  • Homes on a corner lot are more likely to be burglarized.
  • If your home has had a burglary, the odds of being burglarized again dramatically increase.  The stolen items have been replaced with new items.
  • Homes without security systems are about 3 times more likely to be broken into than homes with security systems.
  • Most homes are burglarized by someone who lives within 2 miles of the house.
  • The majority of burglaries occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. , when kids and parents are out of the house and fewer people are in the neighborhood.
  • Typically, burglars spend less than 60 seconds breaking into a home.  The more difficult it is to gain access, the more likely a burglar is to reconsider the attack.
  • It's estimated that 74% of uncompleted intrusions can be credited to an audible alarm.
  • Most convicted burglars said they want to avoid homes with alarm systems and said if they did encounter an alarm, they would likely abandon the attack on the home.
