About IBSC

A premier case competition

Our case competition is second to none in terms of rigor, feedback, publicity, and intensity. Teams from both target and non-target universities across the nation are invited to compete at no cost. Recent collaboration with Wall Street Training has resulted in this year's superb materials and judging. The competition provides the opportunity for teams to prove their merit to energy investment bankers and energy industry professionals involved in the competition. Concurrent with the competition's finals is our annual Oil & Gas Conference. A teaser detailing the conference is attached. A full invitation with more information will be sent when the date approaches.

What you will learn

This competition will demand valuation techniques and financial concepts to be learned quickly and efficiently. The competition offers the opportunity to put your business acumen and unbridled ambition to the test. You will compete against the best students in the nation. Additionally, the competition provides the opportunity to network with conference participants and attendees, comprised of junior level professionals and executives in both finance and energy.

Thank you for your interest in the Investment Banking Scholars Club at the University of Houston. We are the most selective club at the Bauer College with a minimum 3.5 GPA to interview and 12% acceptance rate. This semester our student's average GPA is 3.7,which comes from a mix of 2/3 undergraduate and 1/3 graduate students.

Our academic advisor, Dr. Praveen Kumar is the head of the academic advisory board for
the IBSC and is the chair of the finance department. Dr. Kumar has assisted in creating a specialized Energy Analyst Certificate for the IBSC that allows members
to take courses that pertain to energy investment banking.

The organization engages in rigorous training for international investment banking case competitions. This includes our own competition, which we believe to be the premier energy case competition in academia. Judges and speakers for our conference include executives from prominent investment banks, private equity firms, and energy companies.

We also focus on writing a finance journal in cooperation with the Jones School of
Business at Rice. More information about the Bauer Jones Financial Journal can be found on our website at www.uhibsc.org.

I invite you to contact us and meet our smart and personable students.

Respectfully,

Jack Ryan Reader
