Ed Terpening, a San Francisco artist, loves to paint outdoors, but he is evidently a relatively rare breed -- he loves his day job, too. Terpening's work with research on digital marketing leads him to offer the occasional analysis on art marketing for free, just to help his fellow artists out. His latest survey and analysis was posted last week, and some of his findings are bound to surprise painters. [read more]

Rafael DeSoto, Jr. painted in oil until a fire destroyed his studio in 1984. He switched to watercolors then -- at first out of necessity, but he soon found he was fond of the medium. His return to oil painting, this time with a palette knife, surprisingly reminds him of watercolor painting. [read more]
