Missouri Event Begins Plein Air Season in Earnest Plein air events happen year round, but things get very busy in the spring, peak in the summer, and stay humming through autumn. The Augusta Plein Air Art Festival is a definitive marker stating that the plein air painting season is underway -- more than 130 artists descend upon the Missouri town of 253 in early May for 11 days of painting and activities.
