A Talk with the Author

Hello everyone,
Things are going well but slow. Can someone talk to life and tell it I need either less interruptions or for it to slow down a little? I would be happy with either choice.

I am currently working on polishing up Indiana Wild: Spirit Pass Book 1 for release. I realized I was going to have to give an abbreviated PG version for the newsletter after I re-read parts of it, otherwise it would have scorched your email! LOL.

I am also resuming my work on Paul's Pursuit: Dragon Lords of Valdier Book 6. I am looking forward to this summer when I hope to be able to spend even more time writing. As always, I have stories buzzing around that are demanding to be written and shared.

I noticed one reader commented she wished I would stay focused on one series and finish it before going off on another. There are several reasons that I don't do that.

First, my mind is constantly going from one world to the next.
It is difficult for me to not become involved as the characters
                     start demanding their say.

Second, I think it helps keep me fresh as I have to revisit that world
again before I continue writing on it. The last thing I want is
                     for
the world, and the characters, to become too predictable.

Third, the characters are the ones that provide the story. I don't
                      want
to have to force how their tale is told.

So, please forgive me if you get frustrated with the fact I go from one story to the next and then onto another. Just be thankful you don't have my brain as it buzzes around!

Ask and I Shall Answer

This section is devoted to questions that readers send to me. I try to respond personally but sometimes I may miss someone or I realize that others may have the same questions. Here are a few I have recently received.

FAQ:  Are you going to be creating more Book Trailers?

Answer: Yes! Thanks to my book designer, Melody Simmons, I now have a book trailer for Choosing Riley! She did a fabulous job on it. Click here to view it.

FAQ:  Are you going to write about other aliens like Cree, Calo and Mel from Cornering Carmen?

Answer: Yes. Twin Dragons: Dragon Lords of Valdier Book 7 will be coming out later this summer/early fall. I loved the brothers and Mel is going to show them that Southern girls have a lot of grit!

FAQ:  Would it be possible to tell me, when the 3rd book of Lord of the Kassis will be released and if it contains the romance between Risteards and Ricki?

Answer:  Jo's Journey will be the next Lords of Kassis book and should be out this summer. Risteard and Ricki's will be the next one. Expect it in late fall if all goes well with the other books.

FAQ:   Please tell me Tina is as fiery and will make Viper as miserable as Riley did Vox.

Answer:  While this was not a true question it deserves an answer. Yes, but in her own unique way. Tina has a different personality than Riley's but that does not mean she is a push-over by any means. She also has had Grandma Pearl as a role model in how to stand up for herself when she needs to. Contrary to some reviews, Riley, Tina, and Grandma Pearl are not 'trailer trash'. Both girls went to college, Riley for Criminal Justice and Tina for Accounting, while Pearl did what she could to raise them after their mother died. Life is not always easy but neither should they be condemned. Yes, Riley has a mouth on her - be thankful you don't hear me and the other 'ladies' talking when the computer systems go down. We would make Riley sound like a saint! - ) Since I can't defend her on the review page, I'll defend her here! It is also true she is not a petite delicate 'little' thing. She is a real woman who is just as beautiful in her plus size. I don't know if anyone has ever looked at some of the plus-size models but they are gorgeous! Vox would squish anyone else.

Upcoming Books

Indiana Wild: Spirit Pass Book 1
(April 30, 2013 tentative date for release)
The first four chapters were released in the March Newsletter. I have even given a little bit more on the excerpt on my web site at http://sesmithfl.com for those wanting to read a little more. Her story is as wild as she is and has some scorching love scenes in it that I realized might be a little too hot for a newsletter. Forgive me - I am learning! I will include a little more in this newsletter (with some deleted scenes due to content).

Paul's Pursuit: Dragon Lords of Valdier Book 6
(June 15, 2013)
This book continues the fight against Raffvin. This story is about Paul and Morian but will also give you more insight into the lives of Abby, Zoran and the rest of the characters and their offspring.

Cosmos' Promise: Cosmos' Gateway Book 4
(Summer 2013)
This book will focus on Cosmos and Terra. As I mentioned earlier, going from one series to another helps keep the story lines fresh and interesting. Yes, it would be nice to go straight through the series but then where would all my interesting secondary characters come from?

River's Run: Lords of Kassis Book 1

The idea for River's story came to me from watching a Cirque du Soleil performance. I thought what an incredible profession and how talented the performers were. As the story developed in my mind, I knew I needed to write about a heroine that used her talent to survive and so River, Jo, and Star came to life. During a conversation with my sister, she jokingly mentioned that the rest of the circus needed to be brought to Kassis and become the true 'Circus to the Stars'. The idea stuck and as it did, so too did the characters that have developed and will be introduced in Jo's story. You have already been introduced to one such upcoming story about Risteard and Ricki but I can assure you Ajaska will meet his mate as well among the unique women who are part of this new Intergalatic circus.

An Interview with Eve Langlais

What do you enjoy most about writing?

There are a lot of things I enjoy such as creating new worlds and putting to paper the rules that make my creations work such as deciding if a shapeshifter shreds clothes when he morphs, to aliens who need to implant transmitters in human ears so they can understand each other. I love having characters speak through me and come to life. There is something really awesome about letting a hero or heroine take over and tell their story sometimes in ways I would have never predicted. I get a total kick out of injecting humor into my stories and even better hearing from people who get my attempt at comedy and snort because of it. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to get creative and have fun with my writing.

Which book have you written would you consider your favorite? Why?

Oh goodness. I've written so many, it's hard to choose one. Each has elements I love, but I guess if I had to choose, it wouldn't be so much a single story as the version of Hell I created featuring a unique Lucifer and a set of rules that makes some people cringe. You can see my warped version of Heaven, Hell and its denizens in my Princess Of Hell trilogy, Welcome To Hell series and a few stand alone books such as Date With Death and last Minion Standing. But I warn you, I don’t just blur the line between good and evil, I stomp all over it.

What characteristics do you look for most when you write about your hero/heroine?

My heroines really run the gamut from ass kicking to uncertain but my heroes all have one thing in common; they're most often pigheaded, smitten and determined to keep the woman they love--even if she requires some hard core convincing.

Where do some of your ideas for books come from?

Everywhere. I get ideas all the time from listening to music, driving in the car, a snippet of gossip. I never know when my muse will latch onto something and suddenly twist it into something that makes me say 'Hey, this would make an awesome story.'

Thanks for having me over for a visit.
